PROLOGUE

The first time Aryan Kapoor saw her, she looked exhausted.

Not the kind of exhausted that disappeared after a good night's sleep.

The kind that settled deep inside a person.

The kind that came from carrying too much pain for too long.

The hospital lobby buzzed with activity around him.

Doctors walked past with files in their hands.

Visitors moved from one corridor to another.

Children laughed.

Phones rang.

Life continued as usual.

Yet somehow, his attention remained fixed on a woman standing near the exit.

She couldn't have been older than twenty-six.

In her arms was a newborn baby wrapped in a soft pink blanket.

The baby's tiny face was barely visible.

Sleeping peacefully.

Unaware of the world around her.

The woman adjusted the diaper bag hanging from her shoulder before glancing down at the discharge papers in her hand.

She looked tired.

Very tired.

As though she hadn't slept in days.

A few strands of hair had escaped from her loose braid.

Dark circles rested beneath her eyes.

But despite her exhaustion, the way she held the baby was careful.

Protective.

Loving.

A middle-aged woman stood beside her.

Probably her mother.

The older woman spoke softly while helping her gather a few things.

The younger woman nodded.

A small smile touched her lips.

But it didn't reach her eyes.

There was sadness there.

The kind people carried after losing something they could never replace.

Aryan looked away.

It wasn't his business.

She was just another stranger.

Another face in a city full of people.

Someone he would probably never see again.

A few minutes later, he headed toward the parking lot.

Yet before entering his car, he found himself looking back toward the hospital entrance.

The woman had stepped outside.

The evening breeze gently moved her hair.

The baby stirred in her arms.

Instantly, the woman looked down.

Her entire expression softened.

A genuine smile appeared on her face.

Small.

Fragile.

Beautiful.

For a brief second, she pressed a gentle kiss against the baby's forehead.

And in that moment, Aryan realized something.

Whatever pain she carried...

That little girl was the reason she kept going.

He didn't know her name.

He didn't know her story.

He didn't know that the man who promised to stay forever had abandoned her before their daughter was born.

He didn't know that she had spent months crying herself to sleep.

He didn't know that her world had shattered long before she entered that hospital.

He knew nothing about her.

And yet...

Life has a strange way of bringing certain people together.

Neither Aryan Kapoor nor Aditi Sharma knew it then.

But this simple moment outside a hospital would one day change all three of their lives forever.
